Bicycle Trailer Safety Tips

Please, review safety tips for bicycle trailer users:
  • Children riding in bicycle trailers must always wear a helmet. Proper use of a bike helmet reduces risk of head injury by as much as 88%. Adults should also always use a helmet for safety and role modeling.
  • Use a safety flag, which helps motorists see you.
  • Use hand signals before turning left or right.
  • Pay attention to bicycle trailer weight limits. For child bike trailers, confirm the minimum height and weight and use any recommended inserts for smaller children.
  • Follow all posted road signs – a bicycle is part of traffic.
  • When riding at night, attach a light to the front of your bike and reflectors to the rear of the trailer.
  • When hauling a pet, always secure them with the safety leash.
  • Before riding, check the bicycle's connection to the trailer and be sure the tires are properly inflated.
  • Practice riding in a safe area before taking the trailer on the road. When practicing, pay particular attention to breaking distance, which increases with a trailer attached to your bike.

Bicycle Trailer and Jogging Stroller in one Model

Do you know that you can convert most of the bicycle trailers into jogging strollers?
I would like to share what I learned about an important and very practical feature that bicycle trailers have.
Most of them are designed to convert to jogging strollers with a special kit, included with the purchase of the bicycle trailer.
That feature is perfect for active parents, who want to exercise and be with their children at the same time. Another important benefit is to introduce kids to healthy lifestyle and being a positive role model for them. Our kids will be most likely active and fit when they grow up,if we give them that lesson through our example now.
Bicycle trailer that converts into a jogging stroller is a perfect product to show our kids, how we spend our free time, and how we value healthy and active lifestyle.
I use my Schwinn bicycle trailer for family biking and also for jogging with my baby in the park, it is so practical and useful. I heard from my friends that they use both features of bicycle trailers too, and they like that convenience.

Please share with us, what you think, if you ever used bicycle trailers as joggers?
what's your opinion.

How Safe are Bicycle Trailers?

Bicycle trailers
attach to a bike's rear axle or frame, and can carry children from 1 trough 6 or so.
They provide some protection to passengers since children are seated, strapped in, and usually enclosed in a zippered compartment. Bicycle trailers have a rigid frame enclosed in durable fabric, which offers some protection for young passengers if the unit rolls over. But children still must wear bike helmets. Because the bicycle trailer is closer to the ground, it is potentially safer then a bicycle-mounted seat in a case of accident. Some designs have a hitching arm that allows the bike to fall without tipping the bicycle trailer. For safety it is recommended to attach a 4-7 foot-tall, high-visibility orange flag.

Let us know, what your experience with bicycle trailers.
Would you recommend bicycle trailers for parents?
