What is Safer? - a Bicycle Trailer or Bicycle-mounted Seats
These two-wheeled carts, designed to be towed behind a bicycle, have two bicycle-type wheels and a long hitching arm that fastens onto the bicycle's chain assembly or seat post.
Bicycle trailers are safer then bicycle-mounted baby seats, since kids are seated, strapped in, and enclosed inside a zippered compartment.
Bicycle-mounted seats can make a bike unstable and hard to mount and dismount.
Bicycle trailers are best for special biking routes and trailers, they are not the best products to go on streets with passing cars. For safety's sake, trailers should be considered off-road vehicles, used only in parks and safe trails without the risk of car/bicycle encounters.
When I take my child biking with me in his bicycle trailer, I always check very carefully the proper mounting, and always make sure, that he is wearing a helmet. Helmets are very important to protect and prevent from possible injuries. It is also very important to teach your child from the beginning the habit of wearing helmet.
It is also important to learn how to ride the bike while the bicycle trailer is connected, easy on bumps, and easy turns. Always remember, that when your bike speeds up,braking becomes harder, especially on wet surfaces.
Bicycle trailers are fun for kids, but always remember about safety.
